Hanan Mikhail, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Student Services and Operations

As Co-Founder with 20 years of experience, Director of Student Services and Managing Director in the organization’s Maadi branch, Hanan has had the opportunity to welcome students from all over the world. Hanan has extensive experience teaching Egyptian Colloquial Arabic at all levels for the past 10 years. In addition, Hanan holds a degree from the Faculty of Commerce (English Division) from the American University in Cairo as well as a Diploma in Management from Cairo University along with her teaching certification.

Why Hanan Believes in UCAN: “I love teaching very much and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills through my style of teaching. UCAN is like a second home to me and my colleagues are my family. In addition, I feel like I learn a lot from our international students and they learn a lot from me as well.”

Learn More about Hanan: “I am passionate about many things, but one of the things that I am most passionate about is meeting new people and being able to form relationships with them.”

Hanan’s Favorite Spots in Egypt: “One of my favorite places in Egypt is the Grand Cafe in Maadi, along the Nile. The views are amazing.”

Hanan’s Greatest Wish: “It is my greatest wish to travel the world and to continue learning and discovering new things.”

Marian Ishak, Co-Founder & Director of the Arabic Language Department and Teaching Curriculums

Marian has 20 years of experience teaching Arabic and training teachers on how to effectively deliver UCAN’s innovative language programs. As a graduate from the University of Alexandria combined with two decades of teaching experience, Marian brings all of her knowledge and expertise to the UCAN community.

Why Marian Believes in UCAN: “I became a teacher because I enjoy helping my students meet their needs. What I like the most about UCAN are the variety of cultures present and our creativity when it comes to teaching. What’s great about us is that people come to us to learn new skills and we help to transform their lives. I’m passionate about changing education and changing the Egyptian mentality.”

Marian’s Favorite Spots in Egypt: “My two favorite places in Egypt are Alexandria and IKEA!”

Learn more about Marian: “The song “You Raise Me Up” is very heartfelt to me and it gives me strength whenever I listen to it. I also enjoy reading John Macel’s books on leadership.”

Her Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would like to have the ability to change people’s minds and hearts.”

Meet Our Teachers

  • Francois Alfred, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-12)

    Francois is a highly experienced Arabic teacher, helping students advance through levels 1-12. He has been teaching for nearly the past decade and also holds a BA in Commerce.

    Why Francois Believes in UCAN: “I felt that I had a natural talent for teaching which is why I decided to become a teacher. What I like about teaching at UCAN is its welcoming atmosphere, my boss and being able to develop our teaching techniques.”

    Learn More about Francois: “I am passionate about soccer and my favorite song has got to be“Hotel California” by the Eagles because it reminds me of my College days.”

    Favorite Spot in Egypt: Hurghada, Red Sea

    His Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would have the ability to read people’s thoughts.”

  • Christeen Lamey, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-10)

    Christeen has been working as a part of the UCAN Learning Institute Team for 6 years. She is highly experienced in the Egyptian dialect and teaches levels 1-10. As a lover of music, she always loves infusing her classes with songs, tone of voice, visual aids, and other interesting ways of teaching. She is very patient and is known for building incredible relationships with her students. In addition, Christine has consistently completed the curriculum training and has been evaluated by AUC professors to adhere by national standards for teaching Arabic in Egypt. She has extensive experience teaching students from all over the world including Korean Pastors.

    Outside of the UCAN Institute, Christine is happily married with a one year old son, named Daniel. And, she also is an avid volunteer traveling to help refugees. In everything she does she serves with her heart and shares her passion through her teaching.

    Why Christeen Believes in UCAN: “By nature, I enjoy helping people and when I meet a student who has a desire to learn, I strive to help them. I enjoy teaching students who see learning Arabic as a way to have access to more opportunities and to transform their lives.What I like the most about UCAN are the relationships between the students and staff. I feel like I am part of a family.”

    Her Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would want to have the ability to heal the sick.”

  • Mohammed Hassan, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-10)

    Mohammed Hassan joins the UCAN team from Helwan in Cairo. As a teacher of all Arabic levels, Mohammed utilizes his experience to enhance the lives of students. He is a graduate from Ain Shams University specializing in English Literature and Translation and has been teaching Arabic for 4+ years.

    Why Mohammed Believes in UCAN: “I decided to go into teaching because I enjoy teaching people about my culture. We teach individuals about Arab cultural norms and traditions. I enjoy showing students a different perspective from the Arab world. What I like the most about working for UCAN is how we support one another like a family and our professionalism. I’m passionate about making people happy and supporting them to become successful.”

    Learn More about Mohammed: “I like being around people. And, I like a lot of movies, like fantasy movies such as Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter.”

    His Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would like to be able to read people’s minds and to turn invisible during difficult situations. I would also like to have a button that when pressed, can end all war and make the world peaceful.”

  • Dina Abdou Sadek, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-12)

    Dina Abdou Sadek was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. As a native Arabic speaker, Dina loves sharing the Egyptian Colloquial Arabic language from levels 1 to 7 with her students here at UCAN. Prior to her teaching career, Dina studied literature in the Department of Hebrew at Ain Shams University.

    Why Dina Believes in UCAN: “I was inspired to go into teaching from an early age and feel that I am talented in this. Teaching has now become part of my identity. I very much love teaching and being able to teach someone something new. Supporting people is what truly brings me joy. What I like the most about working for UCAN is their strong work ethic. I am passionate about positive change and growth as a person and helping to change things or people through the power of love, acceptance and encouragement.”

    Favorite Spots in Egypt: “My favorite places in Egypt are the Nile River and Sharm el Sheikh.”

    Favorite Books & Films: “My favorite books to read are psychology books and books on counseling. I like understanding different mindsets and how we can change/grow as people. And as for films, I love any film related to dogs. I feel that animals are powerless and need our love!”

    Her Dream Super Power: “Finally, if I could have any superpower, I would want to be able to read people’s thoughts so that I can determine whether or not someone is a truly good person.”

  • Marina Roushdy, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-8)

    Marina Roushdy teaches Egyptian Colloquial Arabic at all levels. In addition to her teaching experience, she is a Foreign Trade and Administration graduate from the Faculty of Commerce. Over the past 2 years, Marina has honed her skills to become the teacher that she is today.

    Why Marina Believes in UCAN: “I decided to become a teacher because I enjoy teaching people new things. I love the community spirit here at UCAN. I am passionate about helping and educating others.”

    Favorite Spot in Egypt: “My favorite place in Egypt is Aswan.”Favorite Films & Books to Read: “My favorite films are “The Shack” and “Breakthrough” and my favorite books are “Don’t Give Up” and “Journey Out of the Comfort Zone”.

    Her Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would have the ability to fly and to speak any language.”

  • Amal Moussa, Arabic Teacher (Levels 1-12)

    Amal is an Egyptian Colloquial Arabic Teacher at UCAN. As a former Art & Design major as well as Business graduate, Amal brings her creativity and business acumen to the classroom. She has now been teaching as a part of the UCAN family for nearly one year and just loves to teach people new things as this is truly her passion.

    Why Amal Believes in UCAN: “UCAN is being part of its family atmosphere. I am passionate about teaching, art and meeting new people.”

    Favorite Spot in Egypt: “My favorite place to visit in Egypt is the Giza Pyramids.”

    Her Dream Super Power: “If I could have any superpower, I would like to be able to fly so that I can feel free! I would also like to be able to speak any language and to be able to speak to animals.”

  • Christeen Wageh, Arabic Teacher (Levels 3-4)

    Christeen Wageh is a teacher of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, particularly for Levels 3 and 4. As an Electrical Engineering graduate, she brings all of her background into her teaching career as many students come to UCAN to learn Arabic to improve their daily lives and advance their careers.

    Why Christeen Believes in UCAN: “I discovered that I like to help others learn new things and I feel that I am able to convey information effectively to them. What I like about UCAN is that they have a vision for the institute’s future and they are doing everything possible to continue doing what they love.”

    Her Passions: “I enjoy painting and discovering new things and I like being anywhere by the sea. Fun fact: I also love fun-fairs.”
